Speak Up! Make Your Goals Heard

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?  If you set a goal for yourself but don’t tell anyone, will you reach it?

Do you tell other people about goals you have set for yourself?  Whether they they are
professional or personal goals, such as weight loss, goals can not be attained if no one knows what you’re trying to achieve.  On average we have 50,000-70,000 thoughts a day.  How are you going to remember those goals you’re aiming for among the clutter of your mind?

Your #1 fans are those closest to you – significant other, kids, parents, friends.  They want to see you succeed.  When we are successful in reaching goals, we’re happier overall.  And anyone will tell you they prefer being around happy people.

Remember that goals should always be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely).  To help get you started, fill out this Goal Setting Worksheet or grab a workbook like Goal Getter: A Productivity Journal and share it.  Remember to focus on ONE goal for greater success.  Then put copies in prominent locations you frequent, such as the fridge, your bedroom mirror, and your office.  Look back at your goal sheet frequently to see how you’re progressing towards your goal.  And make sure your spouse does the same.  Don’t be afraid to share your failures as well as your successes.  Use them as learning experiences for what can be done differently.

Keep speaking up about your goals.  Make your needs and wants known in order to make them realities.   Help each other succeed in reaching your goals.  And when you’ve achieved your goal, don’t forget to celebrate with a (non-food) reward.  Then it’s time to move on to the next goal!

What goals are you looking to achieve for yourself?  Make your goals known in the Comments below to start verbalizing your wants!
